The Flaying of St. Bartholomew

Regensburg Cathedral
Stained glass
1315-20

This is one of several panels in the north window of the chancel that present the deaths of Apostles. Here, under the direction of King Astrages of India on the left, St. Bartholomew is stretched out on a table while the man in blue flays pulls away his flesh, which the man in green has incised with the knife in his right hand. The darker colors on the saint's body represent the parts from which the skin has already been taken.
